Involved primarily in the modelling of the ocean circulation under the Amery Ice Shelf. Also involved in aspects of applied oceanography, including sea level rise, modelling, data collection and analysis. In 2002, upgraded the widely-used Princeton Ocean Model, resulting in pom2k (which became the version supported by Princeton University) and OzPOM (the version supported by the Antarctic CRC). OzPOM was used as the basis of a model of the cavity under the Amery Ice Shelf.

Involved primarily in investigations of sea-level change and in the modelling of the ocean circulation under the Amery Ice Shelf. Primarily responsible for the development of the Canute sea-level calculator in 2008/2009, which has now been further developed by CSIRO as Canute 3. Later work involved the development of appropriate risk-based vertical planning allowances for sea-level rise, both within Australia and globally.
